The "Buttercup" variety of mushrooms is a strain of Psilocybe cubensis, a species that was isolated from a hybridization of JMF and Yeti.

The Buttercup variety typically has a cap that is golden to yellowish in color, which may resemble the hue of buttercups, hence the name. The cap starts out conical and often flattens out as it matures. The stem (stipe) is usually sturdy and can be either whitish or slightly yellowish, complementing the cap color. It generally has a medium size, with caps that can range in diameter and stems of moderate length.
